Daegu’s Dongseong-ro will be filled with excitement and performances!
Daegu City will hold the “Dongseong-ro Standing Night Performances” in the central square in front of Daegu Department Store on Dongseong-ro from September 1 (Tuesday) until December 3 (Thursday).
These performances, providing citizens and tourists with something new to enjoy, are a project that aims to vitalize the city’s street performance culture, and will be held once or twice a week for a total of 15 performances.
Sponsored by Indi 053, an independent culture and art organization, and supported by Daegu City, the performances will start with acoustic performances by the bands Massalinaa and Safely Today at 7 p.m. on September 1 (Tuesday), which will be followed by a variety of popular, high-quality performances, including plays, classical music (vocal and instrumental), rock and jazz bands, and hip-hop and b-boy performances.
With the participation of a total of 30 performance groups and 150 artists, the events will help Daegu develop a more lively image and vitalize the tourism and culture industries by providing artists with opportunities to practice their craft and local citizens and tourists with opportunities to enjoy unconventional cultural experiences.
In particular, these “standing night performances” will complement the “street musicals” that have been held in front of Hanil Theater and Jungang Police Station since March, encouraging citizens and artists to communicate and meet together on Dongseong-ro, the center of the city’s downtown area.
Park Un-sang, the manager of the Culture and Contents Department of Daegu Metropolitan City, stated, “Once the Dongseong-ro Standing Night Performances have become well-established as an unconventional festival in downtown Daegu, they will provide local citizens and tourists to Daegu with a wide range of new opportunities to enjoy culture and the arts and contribute to the vitalization of the performing arts industry.”
